Windows Copilot can appear as a dedicated button on the Taskbar, keeping an AI assistant one click away. Disabling it reduces accidental launches and keeps the taskbar layout consistent on shared or tightly managed desktops.

The taskbar button is controlled by Windows 11 personalization settings, alongside items like Search and Widgets. Turning the Copilot toggle off removes the icon from the taskbar without changing other taskbar behavior.

Some Windows 11 builds label the switch as Copilot (preview), and managed devices can lock or hide it via policy. The change is typically per-user, so other Windows accounts may still show the button unless the same setting is applied.

Steps to disable Windows Copilot in Windows 11:

  1. Right-click an empty area of the Taskbar.
  2. Select Taskbar settings to open the PersonalizationTaskbar settings page.

Win+I opens Settings directly. Navigate to PersonalizationTaskbar when the taskbar context menu is unavailable.

  3. Under Taskbar items, locate Copilot (or Copilot (preview)).

If the Copilot toggle is missing or disabled, the feature may not be available for the installed Windows 11 build or may be controlled by organizational policy.

  4. Toggle Copilot to Off.

The taskbar button is hidden, but Copilot components may remain installed and accessible through other entry points.

  5. Confirm the Copilot icon no longer appears on the Taskbar.
