Auto-brightness adjusts your iPhone or iPad screen’s brightness based on the ambient light. The feature uses the device’s light sensor to detect the surrounding lighting conditions and automatically adapts the brightness level. This helps reduce unnecessary power consumption and provides an optimal viewing experience in different environments.
Auto-brightness also plays a role in conserving battery life. Bright screens consume more energy, especially in dim lighting where high brightness isn't necessary. By dimming the screen in low-light conditions, your device reduces power usage, improving battery efficiency without compromising visibility.
In addition to power savings, this feature helps with overall device performance and user comfort. It prevents the screen from being too bright in dark settings, which can cause eye strain over time. Auto-brightness ensures a balanced display output, making sure you don’t need to manually adjust the screen every time the environment changes.
To adjust brightness temporarily, swipe down from the top-right of the screen (or up from the bottom on older models) to open the Control Center. Use the brightness slider to set your preferred brightness level without disabling auto-brightness.
Steps to enable auto-brightness on iPhone and iPad:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Select Accessibility.
- Tap Display & Text Size.
- Scroll down and toggle the Auto-Brightness.
