Low Data Mode helps reduce data usage on your iPhone or iPad by limiting background processes and adjusting certain app behaviors. This feature is useful if you have a limited data plan or are using a slow or metered internet connection. When enabled, the system restricts unnecessary data consumption, focusing only on essential functions.
With Low Data Mode active, apps will pause non-critical tasks, such as background refreshing, syncing, and auto-downloading. Streaming services, iCloud backups, and app updates are also adjusted to minimize data usage. This can help avoid exceeding data limits or conserve bandwidth when needed.
Low Data Mode can be applied to both cellular and Wi-Fi connections. It needs to be enabled separately for each type of connection. By toggling this feature, users gain more control over how their iPhone or iPad consumes data, optimizing the device’s performance to match available resources.
Steps to enable low data mode for cellular data on iPhone and iPad:
- Open Settings.
- Select Cellular or Mobile Data.
- Tap Cellular Data Options or Mobile Data Options.
Cellular Data Options may be called Mobile Data Options depending on your region or iOS version.
- Turn on Low Data Mode.
Steps to enable low data mode for Wi-Fi on iPhone and iPad:
- Open Settings.
- Select Wi-Fi.
- Tap the information icon (i) next to the connected Wi-Fi network.
- Turn on Low Data Mode.
You must repeat these steps for each Wi-Fi network where you want to enable Low Data Mode.
